The Club has been granted planning permission to construct a new combined Community Hub and Clubhouse at the Wern.
Moving forward, as a continuation of our plan to improve the facilities at The Wern for all our members and, indeed, for all the residents of Ynysfach to enjoy, we have been working on an application for a grant which, if successful would be used to pay towards the construction of the new facility and associated works; the estimated cost of which is £800,000.
The grant application was submitted to the Council under the Ffos Y Fran Large Grant Scheme; we are delighted to announce that we were successful, the Ffos Y Fran Grant Panel approved the application and we have been awarded a maximum of £400,000 in the form of a grant.
The balance of the total project costs will be funded by the sale of our old clubhouse and a contribution offered by our patron and benefactor, Sir Stanley Thomas.
The total funding package will facilitate a new building on the car park alongside the main stand; all car parks will be resurfaced with tarmac and the flood lights will be changed.
The contract for the new facility is likely to be awarded in the next couple of days.
We have some very busy and exciting months ahead of us.
The Club wishes to express its appreciation for Sir Stanley’s ongoing commitment and gratitude for his financial support for this project.
Finally, we would like to give our sincere and heartfelt thanks to both the Council and Merthyr (South Wales) Ltd, who constitute the Panel, for supporting our application which allows us to proceed immediately.
