Merthyr traveled to Championship side Ystrad Rhondda on Saturday for the first of their two pre-season games and came away with a hard-fought 10-31 victory. The ironmen ran in 5 tries through Hooker Sam Evans, new wingman Asley Norton, scrum-half Adam Hoskins, full back Matthew Jarvis and wingman Chris Czekaj, with outside half Rhys Jones kicking the extras. To their credit, the home side played some good attacking rugby and finished off the pre-season game with the best try of the day. All at Merthyr wish the Rhondda side all the success in the Championship in the new season and thank them for a great welcome after the game Watching Wales defeat England.
