Indigo Premiership League. As It Stands

With one round of the Indigo Premiership League Cup remaining, many of you have asked what the various permutations are in terms of what’s needed next weekend in the capital.

See below the two league tables, updated to include this weekend’s results.

Focusing first on our #EastDivision, you will see that both Newport RFC and Cardiff RFC have guaranteed themselves home quarter final fixtures. Who they play will be determined by next weekend’s results i.e. E1 v W4 and E2 v W3. You will also see that Ebbw Vale RFC are sadly no longer able to qualify for the knockout phase.

Although the Ironmen are in the box seat to secure one of the two remaining qualifying berths in the #EastDivision i.e. E3 and E4, it is still mathematically possible to miss out. That would require the Ironmen to draw a total blank next weekend in Cardiff, with Pontypridd RFC beating RGC in North Wales, but with RGC securing two bonus points (try and within 7) as well as needing to overall the tries scored deficit, which currently sits at -9. So whilst possible, it is unlikely.

The game at Parc Eirias is the tie of the round in the #EastDivision, the winner likely to take all.

Should the Ironmen qualify it will be in third or fourth, and therefore we’ll be on the road in the quarter finals i.e. W1 v E4 and W2 v E3. That will mean a trip to either the Talbot Athletic Ground or Church Bank, both Aberavon RFC and Llandovery RFC having already secured home quarter finals. They play each other in Llandovery this weekend for bragging rights and the W1 berth.

Carmarthen Quins have also qualified for the knockout phase as W3, and therefore will travel to either Newport or Cardiff. Like Ebbw Vale, Llanelli RFC are also sadly no longer able to qualify.

The tie of the round in the #WestDivision, sees the All Whites host the Ravens in a winner takes all game – the winner securing W4. There’s a double bonus point permutation, but again I suggest this is very unlikely.

I hope this helps to clarify #ClearAsMud. If you are at Cardiff Arms Park next weekend, breath easy when the Ironmen score their fourth try of the afternoon. 😉

Dates for the knockout phase are still to be confirmed, but no sooner than 2022.
